Sponge Filter- An Old Mate

Sponge filter is one of the oldest filters used in aquariums and by ornamental hobbist. They are important tools of breeders and groomers. After revolution from power filter to canister filter, sponge filter has not yet off shelves it self from aquarium shops. In this blog we will try to explore much about sponge filters.

Sponge filter is used in many aquarium shop breeders and rearing units from long period of time it has proved to be a true friend of aquarist. Earlier Sponge filter came with only black sponge now a days it comes with many options of media like K1 media zeolite carbon etc. This option helps in proper cycling of tank.

Sponge filter is used with back up of air pump. When air pump injects air insides the sponge filter. Sponge sucks inside debris along with water and blows put clean water. When they are used with KI media or zeolite they give one more benefit.

Drawback part of this sponge filter is for new aquarium trade practice are they look little ugly to new Gen z. They occupy some space in surface area. They are little slow from power filter.
